Cordless Maytronics robots, including the EON and the Liberty 400 and 600, lose their Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection as soon as they are under water. That is normal. Connect the robot to the app before you put it in, set the cleaning mode or weekly schedule you want, then place it in the pool and it runs the program on its own. When you lift it out, the connection comes back automatically. Corded Dolphins stay connected the whole time because the power supply on the deck does the talking. Note that the Liberty 400 pairs by Bluetooth only, through the MyDolphin Plus app.

Its software. Updates carry the fixes and improvements that keep the robot running as designed, so make sure it is current before any other troubleshooting.

• Install the Maytronics One app and turn on Bluetooth.
• Charge the robot until all three battery bars are solid green, then unplug the charger.
• Sign in to the app with the emailed code, hold the power button for three to five seconds until the LED blinks blue, and pair the robot (your phone should not be connected to another Bluetooth device).
• Run the software update when prompted. Stay next to the robot and keep the app open until it finishes.
• Connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, or skip it for now. The LED blinks three times and turns solid blue when it is done.

With the patented DebrisLock backwash filter. Instead of rinsing the basket after every cycle, you empty it about once a week in about five minutes, which Maytronics puts at up to 20 hours saved a year. The filter compresses and traps fine particles, holds a litre of backwash water to flush debris out easily and opens from the bottom with a double door for quick emptying. DebrisLock ships with the EON 120d and is sold as an add-on for the EON 100.

Download the Maytronics One app, turn on Bluetooth and make sure the robot is not on its charger. Create an account and enter the code emailed to you, then hold the robot's power button for three to five seconds to start Bluetooth pairing and follow the on-screen steps. Install the software update if the app offers one. You can then join the robot to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or skip that and do it later. When it is connected the LED blinks three times and turns solid blue.

The robot does not stay connected while it is under water. Set your schedule or cleaning mode first, drop it in, and the connection comes back on its own when you lift it out. One phone can pair over Bluetooth at a time; up to five can connect over Wi-Fi.

Through a filter that catches more fine debris on every pass: filtration from four or five directions, a 4 to 5 litre debris capacity, a larger basket and a closed chamber that keeps what it catches from washing back into the pool. In Maytronics' own 70-minute turbidity tests, starting from the same 7 NTU of cloudiness, the EON 120d left the water up to four times clearer than two other leading robots. Treat that as the manufacturer's figure, but the filter design is why.
