Use the motor label when you can. Nameplate amps usually give a better estimate than horsepower alone.

What kind of pump do you have now?

Look at the label (nameplate) on the motor. It lists horsepower (HP) and amps (A) at a voltage (V).

How would you like to describe it?
HP

Example: a label reading "1 HP, SF 1.25" is a 1 HP pump. Horsepower alone is not a precise measure of electricity use, which is why the amps method is better when you have the label.

This tool is for planning only—not a quote, guarantee or payback promise. Real power use depends on the motor, plumbing, filter condition and programming.
