Swimming Pool Filters
Swimming pool filters are essential for proper water quality and swimmer safety. Even more importantly, it’s essential to select the correct size filter for your pool to adequately turn the water. To choose the correct size, select a pool filter with a flow rate that’s higher than the size of the gallons per minute (GPM) the pool pump produces.
Swimming pool filters trap dust, dirt and sand particles that pass through the skimmer basket and the hair and lint pot. Some are even powerful enough to remove bacteria and particles smaller than the naked eye. It’s essential to invest in a high quality filter to achieve consistent, efficient performance year after year. The pool filters at Pool Express come with solid features like advanced programming technology, durable housing that withstands harsh environments, and environmentally friendly performance. Keep in mind to always choose a filter based on the micron rating: The lower the micron rating, the smaller the particles it can remove from your water.
There are three main types pool filters available to choose from at Pool Express:
Diatomaceous earth (DE): DE filters consist of a fine fabric grid that’s coated with the filter media. Diatomaceous earth is the crushed exoskeletons of tiny Diatoms. These heavy duty filters can remove particles as small as 2 to 5 microns and are known as “water polishers.” The filters are efficient, but require heavy backwashing during cleaning.
Sand: As you may have guessed, sand filters use a sand media bed to filter out fine particles in water. They are effective at filtering small particles and require little supervision and maintenance. Sand filters are capable of removing particles as small as 20 to 40 microns. These filters also require backwashing.
Cartridge: Cartridge swimming pool filters are made of a fine, mesh material, and the filter usually holds more than one cartridge. They must be disassembled and rinsed when it’s time to be cleaned.
