1 HP Pool Pumps
HP refers to the amount of horsepower a pool pump uses, and 1 HP means that these swimming pool pumps use much less energy than others on the market. Keep in mind 1 HP pumps are not designed for large pools, which typically require 1.5 or 2 HP pool pumps.
Pool Express offers a large inventory of 1 HP swimming pool pumps and even ¾ HP pool pumps. These models are perfect for most pool sizes and are a great way to cut back on energy use. The amount of HP the pool pump needs depends on the size and shape of your pool, and how it is used. Each model is from well-known brands in the swimming pool industry, including Pentair, Hayward, and the new energy efficient EcoPump.
Take this example and fill in your own swimming pool’s gallons. And remember, the pool volume (gallons) multiplied by two equals daily gallons required for a 12 hour turn.
EX: For a pool that holds 15,000 gallons of water.
15,000 gallons x 2 turnovers/day= 30,000 gallons/day
Circulate 30,000 gallons of water every 24 hours. How many gallons per minute, or GPM, is this?
30,000 gallons/ 24 hours = 1,250 gallons/hour
1,250 gallons per hour/ 60 minutes = 20.8 gallons per minute
A 15,000 gallon swimming pool needs about 20 GPM output if you want to run it 24 hours a day. Use this example and plug in your own pool’s gallons to determine if a swimming pool pump with 1 HP fits your needs. Unless you have a large swimming pool, a pool pump that runs on 1 HP will work for your pool.
