Reviews are written by our in-house pool professionals from hands-on testing. How we test
Under $700 buys a real robotic pool cleaner: its own motors, pump, filter and navigation, no hoses and no booster pump. What it does not buy is waterline scrubbing, a weekly timer or fine filtration, so the robots here are best for above-ground pools, small inground pools and owners who are happy to press start. Prices are live from our store, and open-box units let a better robot slip under the line.

Every robot in this band cleans the floor thoroughly. The Dolphin Escape is a floor cleaner for inground and above-ground pools up to 33 ft with HyperBrush scrubbing and a MaxBin basket. Aquabot's X2 and REVA offer alternatives when they are in stock, and open-box or refurbished Escapes and Caymans appear here when their price qualifies.
What is missing: a weekly timer (except on open-box timer models), waterline cleaning, NanoFilters and app control. If your pool is inground with a tile line, consider stretching to the under $1,000 band, where the Cayman lives, or to an open-box Quantum or Premier for the full feature set at a reduced price.
Active brushes and strong suction, not a suction cleaner's passive hose.
About 14 lb, a 40 ft cable and a 1.5–2 hour cycle.
The Escape's top-load MaxBin empties in seconds and takes optional NanoFilter panels.
Waterline cleaning, weekly timers, fine filtration and app control start in the next band.
HyperBrush scrubbing, a MaxBin basket and SmartNav in a 14 lb floor cleaner for inground and above-ground pools.
View the Dolphin EscapeFor most pools, the Dolphin Escape: it scrubs with HyperBrush, carries a MaxBin basket and uses SmartNav, and it works in inground and above-ground pools. If you want wall climbing and a weekly timer, stretch to the Dolphin Cayman in the next band.
The Dolphin and Aquabot models in this band use the same motor and filter designs as their premium ranges in simpler packages, and carry two-year warranties. The compromise is features, not build quality.
It will clean the floor well. It will not climb walls or scrub the waterline, so plan to brush the tile line yourself or move up a band.
Yes. This page uses live store prices, so robots appear and disappear as prices and open-box availability change.
