The Betta SE Plus uses a solar panel on its top deck to power two motors, which steer it across the pool while a paddle sweeps floating debris into a large basket. Ultrasonic sensors detect walls and obstacles so it turns before bumping, and a battery stores surplus charge for cloudy spells and evening running; on a full charge it can run for more than 30 hours. Lift the basket out, dump the leaves and set it back on the water.
Skimmers and floor robots do different jobs. A floor robot vacuums what has sunk; a skimmer removes what is still floating, which is where leaves, pollen and bugs start. Used together, the skimmer keeps the surface clear and the floor robot's filter lasts longer between rinses. A skimmer is not a replacement for a floor cleaner or for your pool's built-in skimmer basket.

Yes. The skimmer floats on any pool surface and is not affected by salt chlorination. Rinse it with fresh water now and then as you would a floor robot.
