Lightweight Robotic Pool Cleaners

A robot that is hard to lift is a robot that stays in the pool too long or in the garage too often. The robotic pool cleaners here weigh 20 lb or less with the water drained, and most about 14 lb, so lifting one out by its handle is as easy as carrying a bag of groceries. They are the right choice for anyone who prefers not to wrestle a 35 lb machine, and for above-ground and small pools where that weight is unnecessary.

Why weight matters, and where the light robots give something up

Dry weight is only part of the story: a robot lifted out of the pool carries water in its filter and body for the first few seconds. Models here use quick-drain housings and top-load baskets that empty fast, so a 14 lb Cayman or Escape feels like 14 lb a moment after it clears the water.

What the lightweight robots trade is capacity and reach: smaller filters, shorter cables and, on several, floor-only coverage. The Cayman keeps wall cleaning at about 14 lb; the Premier, Sigma and Quantum weigh about 35 lb and want a caddy for the same convenience.

14 lb class

The Dolphin Cayman and Escape, both rated for pools up to 33 ft.

Under 20 lb with walls

The Cayman climbs and scrubs walls at about 14 lb; the Escape is the floor-only option at the same weight.

Quick drain

Top-load baskets and drain ports shed water as the robot lifts clear.

No caddy needed

Carry it by the handle; store it on a shelf.

Lightweight Robotic Pool Cleaners: your questions answered

How much does a robotic pool cleaner weigh?

Entry and small-pool robots weigh about 14 lb; mid-range inground robots 18–28 lb; premium commercial-grade robots such as the Dolphin Premier and Sigma about 35 lb, and the Aquabot X4 about 40 lb. Every product page lists the weight.

Is a heavier robot a better cleaner?

Weight follows motor size and filter capacity, so heavier robots usually clean larger pools faster and climb more strongly. For pools under 33 ft a 14 lb robot cleans just as thoroughly.

How do I lift a heavy robot without a caddy?

Pull the robot to the wall with the cable, let it drain for ten seconds at the surface, then lift by the handle with both hands. A caddy or a cordless model with a floating handle makes it easier.

Are cordless robots lighter?

Not always, because the battery adds weight, but they are easier to retrieve: a floating handle brings the robot to the surface and there is no cable to manage.
