Reviews are written by our in-house pool professionals from hands-on testing. How we test
Algae grows where water is still and surfaces go unbrushed: walls, steps, corners and the waterline. A floor-only robot with a coarse filter does little about it. The robotic pool cleaners here scrub walls and the waterline with active brushes and capture the loosened algae in NanoFilters, UltraFilters or Multi-Media filtration fine enough to hold it, and the Clear UV adds UV-C light inside the robot to help break down organic growth as it cleans.

Algae control is chemistry first: sanitizer, balanced pH and circulation. What a robot adds is the mechanical part that most owners skip, brushing. Spores settle on walls, steps and the waterline, and brushing every day or two breaks up the biofilm before it blooms. A robot with wall and waterline coverage does that brushing on a schedule, and its fine filter removes the dead algae and the dust it feeds on so the pool filter is not overloaded.
After a green bloom, shock the pool and brush the walls by hand once, then run the robot with its finest filter in two or three cycles. The robot vacuums the dead algae off the floor and walls faster than the pool filter can, which is the slow step in clearing a green pool. A coarse basket lets fine dead algae pass straight back into the water; NanoFilters, UltraFilters and Multi-Media bags are rated for the particles that matter here.
Every robot here is rated for floor, wall and waterline cleaning, so brushes reach where algae starts.
NanoFilters, UltraFilters and Multi-Media capture dead algae and the fine dust that feeds it.
The Clear UV shines UV-C light on the water passing through the robot to help neutralize organic growth.
Weekly timers and app scheduling run the brushes before a film can take hold.

View the Dolphin QuantumA robot removes algae mechanically by brushing walls and the waterline and filtering out what it loosens, which is the part of algae control most pools miss. It does not sanitize the water, so pair it with proper chlorine or salt levels and shock after a bloom.
The finest filter the robot has: NanoFilters, UltraFilters or a Multi-Media fine bag. Dead algae is fine enough to pass through a coarse basket. Rinse the filter after every cycle until the water clears.
The Clear UV passes the water it filters under a UV-C lamp inside the robot, which damages the DNA of algae and bacteria in that water. It supplements, rather than replaces, chlorine or salt sanitation, and it helps keep a pool from slipping back into a bloom.
Every one to two days in warm weather, with wall and waterline coverage enabled. Daily brushing is the single most effective mechanical step against algae, and a robot on a timer makes it effortless.
It helps keep the floor clean, but algae starts on walls, steps and the waterline. Choose a floor, wall and waterline model for an algae-prone pool.
