Saltwater pools are good news for robot owners: because a robotic pool cleaner is self-contained and never connects to your pump, filter or chlorinator, salt chlorination makes no difference to how it works. Every robot here is rated for saltwater, including the whole Dolphin range, Clear, Aquabot and Blue Helix. The only extra step is a fresh-water rinse after each cycle so salt does not dry on the tracks, brushes and cable.

Salt chlorinators generate chlorine from dissolved salt, so the water a robot swims in is about one tenth as salty as the ocean and carries a normal chlorine level. The materials in a pool robot (polymer housings, stainless hardware, rubber tracks, sealed motors) are chosen for chlorinated water of either kind, and manufacturers rate them for saltwater without a special model or option.
What changes is maintenance. Salt crystallizes as water evaporates, so a robot left on the deck in the sun will show a white film on tracks and brushes. Rinse the robot, filter and cable with a hose after every cycle, store it out of direct sun on its caddy or a shaded spot, and the salt has no effect on its life. The same rinse also removes the fine calcium that salt pools shed on tile.
No connection to the chlorinator cell, pump or filter: the robot has its own motors, pump and filter.
Dolphin, Clear, Aquabot and Blue Helix all list salt chlorinated pools as compatible.
Salt pools build calcium scale on tile; a robot that scrubs the waterline keeps it in check.
A 30 second fresh-water rinse prevents salt crystals on tracks, brushes and the cable swivel.
Waterline scrubbing keeps calcium off the tile line, Multi-Media filtration handles every debris type and the warranty runs three years.
View the Dolphin PremierUV-C sanitation complements salt chlorination, with quad brushes, UltraFilters and a 3-year warranty.
View the Clear UVFloor, walls and waterline with NanoFilters, a weekly timer and app control, rated for pools up to 50 ft.
View the Dolphin QuantumA 14 lb floor-and-wall robot with a MaxBin basket and weekly timer for pools up to 33 ft.
View the Dolphin CaymanNo. Every robotic pool cleaner we sell is rated for salt chlorinated pools. The robot does not connect to the chlorinator or plumbing, and its materials are designed for chlorinated water of either type.
Not when the robot is rinsed and stored out of the sun. Dried salt crystals are the only risk, and a quick fresh-water rinse after each cycle removes them from tracks, brushes and the cable.
A robot rated for waterline cleaning scrubs the tile band on every cycle and slows the build-up of calcium and scum. Established scale still needs a tile cleaner, but the robot keeps it from returning as quickly.
Yes. The robot is independent of your circulation system, so it can run at any time regardless of the chlorinator schedule. Many owners run the robot on its weekly timer overnight while the pump and cell run their own schedule.
