Vinyl liners are soft, and a cleaner that scuffs plaster will mark a liner. Every robotic pool cleaner here uses soft rubber tracks or brushes and holds itself to the surface with water flow instead of hard wheels, which is why robots are the cleaner of choice for vinyl pools. Choose floor-only or floor, wall and waterline coverage, and let the robot scrub the liner without a brush in your hand.

Suction and pressure cleaners drag hoses and hard wheels across the liner, and a stuck cleaner can wear a spot through it. Robotic cleaners move on wide rubber tracks or soft brushes, spread their weight across the liner, and are held to the floor and walls by the water they pull through the filter rather than by pressure. Dolphin, Clear, Aquabot and Blue Helix all rate their robots for vinyl liners.
The practical risks are grit and chemistry, not the robot. Rinse the tracks and brushes after a cycle in a sandy pool so trapped grit does not abrade the liner, keep chlorine balanced so the liner stays supple, and store the robot out of the sun. With that routine, a robot extends liner life by keeping dirt and algae from embedding in the vinyl.
HyperGrip tracks and rubber or PVC brushes scrub without abrasives.
Robots climb by suction through the filter, so they press lightly on the liner instead of grinding against it.
Models rated for waterline cleaning remove the scum line on the liner that otherwise needs hand brushing.
Frequent light cleaning is kinder to a liner than infrequent heavy brushing.

View the Clear SRobots are rated for vinyl liners and use soft rubber tracks and brushes. Scratches come from grit trapped in brushes or from a worn track, so rinse the robot after use and replace worn brushes. Keep the cable from dragging over sharp coping.
Floor-only robots are gentle and inexpensive, but the waterline is where a liner stains. If your pool collects a scum line, a floor, wall and waterline robot keeps the liner cleaner with less hand brushing.
Yes. Robots are used on vinyl-over-sand and vinyl-over-vermiculite floors routinely. Choose a lighter model if the floor is uneven, and let the robot run its normal cycle without added weight.
Brushes sweep across wrinkles and seams and the filter captures what they loosen. Deep wrinkles may collect a little debris the robot passes over; a second cycle usually clears it.
