The narrow waist and two rounded ends of a kidney pool can make a basic cleaner repeat one half while missing the other. Better navigation, sure wall grip and a route that changes angle between passes are the useful features. These full-coverage residential robots clean floors, walls and the waterline, giving them repeated opportunities to cross the center and work both curved lobes.

A mapped robot varies its heading after each wall encounter, so it does not keep bouncing between the same two curves. A swivel cable also helps because repeated turns around rounded ends can otherwise wind slack into a coil.
The waterline is often longer than owners expect in a kidney pool. A true waterline mode follows both lobes and the inside curve; a floor-and-wall model merely reaches the surface and turns.
Prevents the robot from repeating one lobe of the pool.
Track drive helps the cleaner rotate through the narrow waist.
Reduces twist from many curved wall encounters.
Scrubs the complete curved perimeter rather than only climbing to it.
Advanced robots infer the layout during the cycle and vary their route; they do not save a literal blueprint, but they should repeatedly cross and cover both lobes.
Clean the filter, inspect tracks and straighten the cable first. Reduced flow or cable tension can stop the turn through the narrow center.
It is useful for an occasional missed pocket, but good automatic navigation should handle the full pool without manual driving every cycle.
